Brrrr!
Have you ever been to a dessert before? Even if you haven’t been to a desert you probably still know that when I’m writing about a trip to camp out in the desert I shouldn’t start it out with brrr. The first day we rode our camels (and also the last) we made three stops:
1. our lunch spot (Camel Poop Ave.)
2. “the village”
3. the place where we had dinner and slept

My camel was named "Ms. India" because five years ago she won first prize at a camel festival. We're not sure if it was a camel beauty show or a race. Our guides spoke very good English, but we still didn't understand everything they said. Sloan named his camel Cam-Cam which at first I thought was weird but now it sounds cute!

We got to Camel Poop Ave. and the people who went with us -the camel owners- made us lunch. One man tied up the camels front legs so they couldn’t go far. Mommy’s camel, Mehendra, didn’t even try to go far. He just found one plant and stayed with it until he was ready for another one. We ate lunch and then me and Sloan played with HUGE beetles. Sloan found a stick and picked a beetle up with the stick and threw it. We actually named some of the beetles: Bob and Bobette.

Back on the camels. While one camel was sitting ready to go and waiting for someone to get on its' back it pooped and just sat in the poop.
We took off to go see the camel drivers' village. Their children were there and they just stared at us until mommy started patting and clapping and snapping so the children did too. Somehow we got into the subject of school and mommy wanted to see one of the older kids’ school books. He showed us his reading and there was a story in it that went something like this: One day I was going to the grocery store with my mom and a car hit a lady and she died. I thought that was a little strange!
The camel people were showing us their concrete houses. I thought they were really short and daddy would bump his head if he went in one! The kids followed us around the village, two of them trying to pull our hair. That was really annoying. It was time to go but just when we were about to leave, a couple from Holland arrived. We had to wait for them to see everything then
we got back on the camels.

We then played a little, and everyone had dinner around the fire. I helped make chapattis for dinner. The adults stayed up and sang around a campfire while Sloan and I went to sleep in our tent.
I woke up really early and looked outside, the couple from Holland was standing outside in the lightning and rain!
Then it started to hail!!
And of course, our little tent was leaking all over us. This was not good or normal.
They called off the second day of our camel safari. No wonder. I was so excited when the jeep finally came to pick us up. I felt bad for the camels though.
The hotel was really warm after being in wet clothes all morning.

On the go again. Can't wait to receive your next travel news. Loved hearing about Camel poop rd. I will call you later this week. Waiting for Snow storm to arrive this afternoon. Love aunt RARA
Hi to you all:
Hope 2009 is treating you well.
I guess you are off somewhere else by now - hopefully without your tents! Sounds like the camping experience came with a a few leaks. My one camping foray was a nightmare. Never again! I felt like I was sleeping in a running bathtub.
Well I have to say, the camels look very sweet, but it sounds like it was a very bumpy ride. My favorite picture is Daddy trading hats with your guide. Priceless!
Can't wait to read the next chapter. You both have great descriptions - I see a book in your future. Have fun and take care of each other

This is my third try for leaving a message! My password wouldn't work! Oh the trials and tribulations of being the oldest Nannie Sue in existance. Here goes!
Oh where oh where are the Cherry Family? Sloan and Hailey, we are "breathlessly" awaiting a new episode....where are the picture of the sunny beach with the "beach bums" sunning themselves?
My love,
Nannie Sue
